A Little About Alki

Being the original white settlement in what was about to become the city of Seattle, Alki
is a popular place for those who enjoy being close to the water and other attractions. Once a place that was only reachable by boat from most of Seattle up until the 1980s, Alki is now connected to Seattle by the West Seattle Bridge. Just two minutes to the east of Alki is Schmitz Park, a 53 acre area that is one of the last remains of well-matured forest in the city. Surrounded on the northwest by Elliot Bay, on the southwest by Puget Sound, and on the east by the West Seattle hill, Alki is the peninsular neighborhood surrounding Alki Point. Other familiar names for this point may be Battery Point, Me-Kwah-Mooks Point,  or Roberts Point. A small replica of the Statue of Liberty can be found at Alki Point, along with a lighthouse that stands as a historic landmark since 1913.

Alki Beach is the main area of attraction for people that live in the area as well as for people who are in the area visiting. Although not generally an ideal place for swimming, the beach does have many captivating features such as sand, salt water, bungalows, stunning views, and unique local restaurants. Alki Beach offers a relaxing environment appealing to people who want to enjoy biking, walking, socializing, barbecuing, or simply laying out to get a tan. For people interested in being more active, there are activities like roller-skating, volleyball, and kayaking to enjoy. Since the early 1900s, summer concerts have been taking place on Alki Beach that attract people from all over the area. One of the most popular events, Seattle Music Fest, takes place in August for three days each year.
