This small but desirable neighborhood is located in the northwestern part of Seattle and is surrounded by many different attractions that always gives people something local to visit or get familiar with.To the north of Ballard is Crown Hill, to the east is Greenwood, to the south is the Lake Washington Ship Canal and to the west is Puget Sound’s Shilshole Bay.The city was first inhabited by the Shilshole Tribe who had claims to the region, but was later occupied and taken over by a European homesteader in 1853. People were originally drawn to the area because of the salmon fishing opportunities and by 1900, Ballard became the state’s seventh largest city. It officially became part of Seattle in May of 1907 and is now home to over 40,200 people.
In recent years, Ballard has expanded their entertainment scene, mainly amongst bars, restaurants and coffee shops that help the growing music activity.The city also has a wide variety of restaurants and local shops that are available for the enjoyment of permanent residents of those just passing through who are interested in experiencing them. The Ballard area is part of the Seattle Public Schools district and is also within in minutes of a few different colleges. There are a few different historical sites that are of interest to many people, including Ballard Bridge and Carnegie Library, as well as landmarks that allow people to get in touch with this wonderful area.
