The architectural type style of houses and buildings that are seen to this day throughout the Pioneer Square neighborhood is representative of how the area was formed back in 1852. This area is located in the southwest corner of downtown Seattle and is represented by the 98104 ZIP code. The site was originated when entrepreneur Henry Yesler decided it would the ideal place for his lumber mill, which was located on Elliott Bay. Pioneer Square was an area that started out by being made of mostly wood structures, which later burned down during the Grand Seattle Fire of 1889. Luckily, during that time, the economy was strong enough to allow for Pioneer Square to quickly be rebuilt. Then during the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897-1898, Seattle was a main center of travel for countless amounts of people to make their way to and from Alaska.
