As the name suggests, the neighborhood of View Ridge enjoys lovely views of Lake Washington, Mount Rainier and the Cascade Range. The views were created intentionally by Ralph Jones and Al Balch, who settled the area in 1936, first purchasing 10 wooded acres on a high point between what are now the Wedgwood and Hawthorne Hills neighborhoods, then clearing enough trees to enjoy views of the lake and mountains. View Ridge is bordered by Matthews Beach on the north, Sand Point on the east, Windermere on the south, and Wedgwood on the west.
Residents of the neighborhood are generally classified as upper-middle-class and cherish their access to View Ridge Elementary School, as well as the large park and playfield across the street. A public middle school and several nearby private schools round out the educational landscape of the area. The View Ridge neighborhood also has a swim and tennis club and a country club within its bounds, which is located on the eastern edge of View Ridge; the Sand Point Country Club is located on the northern edge. Many residents from the neighborhood also go to Fiddler's Inn Pub and Restaurant, which is popular for its considerable beer selection. There are many various small businesses in the neighborhood that provide everything from clothing to hand-crafted jewelry to pet training to yoga.
