Just four minutes north of Gas Works Park, the neighborhood of Wallingford is located in north central Seattle. It is occupied by additional public areas and the center of the neighborhood is often acknowledged as the QFC supermarket.The Wallingford business district extends along North 45th Street and features many small shops, a few banks, a pharmacy, some taverns and bars, two movie theatres, numerous restaurants, apartments and Wallingford Center.
The neighborhood was named after John Wallingford, who was a major local landowner, real estate speculator and one of Washington State’s first millionaires. While not having definite boundaries, Wallingford is identified as being surrounded by Lower Woodland Park to the north, Interstate 5 to the east, Lake Union to the south, and Stone Way to the west. There are also some major annual events that take place in this neighborhood, with a couple of them being the Family Fourth fireworks at Gas Works Park and some events associated with Seafair.
